Sannas Bobotti

Piergraziano Sanna makes wine in Mamoiada, in the Nuoro province of central Sardinia, on a small vineyard he purchased in the locality of Sa 'e Ghippadu despite having no family roots in winemaking. Bobotti - named for the legendary 'black man' figure used in Sardinian folklore to scare children - is his pure Cannonau, hand-harvested from young and centenary alberello vines, fermented spontaneously with no added yeasts, and aged a year in old wood. No chemical treatments at all in the vineyard, not even copper or sulphur. Ruby red, with raspberry and ripe plum, Mediterranean scrub and spice; warm, full-bodied, fresh and pleasantly tannic with a long finish.
