Abbia Nova Piglio Berlame 20

Cousins Daniele and Pierluca Proietti farm 7 hectares of small parcels in Piglio, south of Rome, where viticulture dates to the Roman Empire. Berlame is their Cesanese del Piglio Superiore DOCG - the bottle photographed is number 520 of just 1,061 produced in 2020, at a powerful 15% alcohol as stated on the label. Old vines on clay-limestone soils, hand-harvested, spontaneously fermented with native yeasts, no fining or filtration, minimal sulphites. Structured, deep, and among the reference natural expressions of Lazio's greatest red grape.
