Area: Tortona Valley, Piemonte, Italy
Oltretorrente is a small, independent, artisanal, family-run, boutique winery set on top of the smooth hills of the Tortona region, in Piedmont.
Their biggest aim is to balance between saving and preserving the legacy old farmers left, and making high quality wines from these old vineyards with an organic approach, which is the best way to express the history, the soil, the identity of this area.
The harvest is done by hand in small boxes to select and collect only the healthiest grapes and to take them in the wine cellar perfectly intact.
Old vineyards have significantly lower yields, but this is of benefit to the complexity and structure of wines: in fact the old vines produce less but the plants are more balanced and grapes are more rich, deep and well balanced in their characteristics.
not simplified and macerations on the skins of red grapes are very long, but without losing wine spontaneity. The ageing is always on total yeast lees to increase the complexity and stability of wines in a natural way.
